Where to stay for a honeymoon
- Tridente (Spanish Steps): the most elegant area, quiet at night, walkable to Trevi and Villa Borghese. The historic luxury hotels are here, such as the Hassler at the top of the Trinità dei Monti. See hotels near the Spanish Steps.
- Trastevere: cobbled lanes, terraces, outdoor dinners. Livelier at night: ask for a room facing the courtyard. See hotels in Trastevere.
- Monti: charming guesthouses and boutique hotels a few steps from the Colosseum, often cheaper than the Tridente. See Trastevere or Monti.
- Historic centre: Pantheon and Piazza Navona, ideal for walking out for an evening. See the historic centre.
Plan for the tourist tax, which is added to the room price. Mention the honeymoon when booking: a gesture (bottle, flowers, upgrade) is possible but never guaranteed.
Moments for two that are worth it
- Sunset on the Aventine: the terrace of the Orange Garden is free and looks over the Tiber and the dome of St Peter's. Arrive an hour before closing.
- The Janiculum and the Pincio: two free panoramas over the rooftops of Rome, at the Janiculum and the Pincio terrace.
- Trevi Fountain, late at night: much calmer after 10 pm. See the Trevi Fountain.
- An evening on a Vespa with a driver: the most romantic way to see Rome lit up. The passenger sits at the back while a driver rides. Private formats of 1.5 to 3 hours start at roughly 70 to 200 dollars per person depending on length (listings checked in October 2026). Our guide compares Vespa and Fiat 500 tours.
- Dinner on a rooftop: see the rooftops of Rome.

How many days and what pace
- 4 nights: Rome only, with one sightseeing morning a day (Colosseum, Vatican) and the rest as walks.
- 6 to 7 nights: add two nights in another city (Florence, or Naples and the Amalfi coast) by train.
- Alternate a busy day with a free day; book Colosseum and Vatican slots ahead (see Colosseum or Vatican).
- Avoid August (very hot, many shops closed in mid-month).
