Roman dishes that are already plant-based
Ask for pizza marinara (tomato, garlic, no cheese), pasta aglio, olio e peperoncino or all'arrabbiata, Jewish-style artichokes (carciofi alla giudia, fried in oil) and grilled vegetables. For chickpea soup or pasta with beans, ask whether the broth contains meat or lard. A useful sentence: "Sono vegano, senza carne, formaggio, uova e latte" (I am vegan, no meat, cheese, eggs or milk).
A 100% vegan food tour
The Vegan Street Food Tour with a local guide lasts about 2.5 hours and goes through the Jewish quarter: plant-based supplì, Jewish-style artichoke, dairy-free gelato. The listed price was about 89 US dollars per person on 29 October 2026. Standard Italian cooking classes are often marked as unsuitable for vegans: see cooking classes in Rome and tell the organiser in advance.
