Rome's weather in September
Usual climate values for Rome give lows around 16 °C and highs around 27 °C in September, with about 65 mm of rain over 6 days (indicative figures, based on average climate records). Hot, sunny days dominate, but the first late-summer thunderstorms are possible, often short.

The sun still sets fairly late early in the month: sunsets from the Orange Garden or from one of Rome's viewpoints are among the pleasures of the season. For a comparison with summer, see Rome in summer.

Free sites and closures
On the first Sunday of the month (6 September 2026), state-run sites are free, with the crowds that brings: arrive before opening or choose another day (see free things to do in Rome). The Vatican Museums are free on the last Sunday of the month, 27 September; it is extremely busy, and you should check the schedule on the official site. Weekly closures do not change: many state museums close on Monday.
