Rome's weather in June
The 1991-2020 normals for the Ciampino station give about 17 °C at night and 28 °C by day in June, with 30 mm of rain over roughly 3 days. The weather is often excellent, but the second half of the month can already be very hot. Month-by-month detail is in our guide to the best time to visit Rome.

Flip your day: open-air sites at opening time, museums and churches in the hot hours, terraces and walks in the evening. A water bottle, a hat and sunscreen are essential; water from the "nasoni" fountains is drinkable (see drinking water and nasoni).
What happens in June
- 2 June, Republic Day: a public holiday. In 2026, for the 80th anniversary of the 1946 referendum, the day included a ceremony at the Altare della Patria, the parade along Via dei Fori Imperiali and a flypast by the national aerobatic team; state museums and archaeological parks were free, according to Turismo Roma. Expect closed streets in the centre and check the free-entry conditions (booking, queues) before you come.
- The Aventine rose garden: in 2026 it closed on 14 June; it opens in spring only and the roses fade in June. See the Rome rose garden.
- 29 June, Saints Peter and Paul: Rome's patron saints' day, a public holiday. See Saints Peter and Paul in Rome; the Vatican Museums are usually closed that day, so check their calendar.
- Opera and open-air concerts: the summer season of the Rome Opera starts in late June; in 2026 it was held at the Circus Maximus from 29 June to 31 July. The venue depends on works at the Baths of Caracalla.
- Festa de' Noantri: it takes place in July in Trastevere (see the Festa de' Noantri).
For the year's calendar, see Rome's major events.
What to do in June

- At opening time: Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine, with a booked slot (see tickets to book in Rome).
- In the hot hours: Vatican Museums, Capitoline Museums, Borghese Gallery.

Crowds and prices
June is high season: long queues at the major sites, expensive accommodation especially at weekends and around public holidays. Prices tend to drop in July and August (see Rome in summer). Book early, and check that air conditioning is mentioned in the listing.
