Festa de' Noantri: Trastevere's July Festival, Dates, Processions and Programme
The Festa de' Noantri is Trastevere's big popular festival: every July, for about two weeks, the district honours the Madonna del Carmine, also called the Madonna Fiumarola, with Masses, processions through the lanes and on the Tiber, and free evening shows in Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere. "Noantri" means "we others" in Roman dialect: it is how Trastevere's residents set themselves apart from the rest of Rome. The festival is free and lived on the street; the dates change every year, and those below are from the 2026 edition.
Highlights

The procession of the Madonna
The religious high point is the procession of the statue of the Madonna del Carmine, carried on shoulders by confraternity members in white robes through the streets of Trastevere. In 2026, a Pontifical Mass was held on Saturday 18 July at 4:30 pm in the church of San Crisogono, followed by the historic procession. The statue, venerated as the Madonna Fiumarola, is linked by tradition to an image found in the Tiber in the 16th century.

Evenings in Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere
In 2026, nine evenings of free concerts and entertainment took place on the square from 17 to 25 July, organised by the association Il Posto delle Fragole. The programme changes every year; the square, with its fountain and the mosaic façade of the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, is a natural setting for the festival.
The procession on the Tiber
On Sunday 26 July 2026 a river procession carried the statue on the water; on Monday 27 July a final procession went through the lanes and squares of the district. The riverbanks and bridges are packed then: take your place early.
The district's trattorias
The festival draws crowds in the evening: Trastevere's trattorias are often full, so book or dine early. See our guide to Trastevere.
The religious events at the start of the festival
From 13 to 15 July 2026, the rosary and Mass took place daily at 6 pm. For visitors these remain church services: modest dress is required inside the church.

Tips
Entry is free everywhere, with no ticket or reservation. The processions block traffic and cause bus diversions; come on foot or by tram 8 from Largo Argentina. July evenings are hot: bring water and note the "nasoni" fountains (see toilets and drinking water in Rome). Watch your belongings in the crowd, as in our guide to scams to avoid in Rome. For the season's context, read Rome in summer. Official programme and 2026 dates: see turismoroma.it and festadenoantri.it; information checked in October 2026.
How to get there
Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere, 00153 Rome. Tram 8 from Largo di Torre Argentina, then a few minutes on foot to the square; on foot, allow about 15 minutes from Campo de' Fiori across the Ponte Sisto.
