Palazzo Colonna in Rome: gallery, salons and gardens, Saturday hours and tickets
Palazzo Colonna, between Piazza dei Santi Apostoli and Via della Pilotta, is a private residence of the Colonna family, one of Rome's oldest, whose apartments and picture gallery can be visited in a very short window: Saturday morning, and Friday morning on a guided tour by reservation. You pass through the Baroque great gallery with its ceiling devoted to the Battle of Lepanto, salons decorated with paintings and period furniture, then the terraced gardens. The short ticket costs €15, the complete visit €25 (prices from the official site galleriacolonna.it, October 2026). Allow 1.5 to 2 hours.
Highlights

The façade and the palace
The palace fills a whole block at the foot of the Quirinal and opens onto Piazza dei Santi Apostoli; the Saturday entrance is on the other side, on Via della Pilotta. It has been the Colonna family's residence since the Middle Ages: the present gallery dates mostly from the 17th and 18th centuries.

The terraced gardens
The gardens, with their fountains, statues and potted orange trees, are included in the short visit. They climb the hillside and offer rare calm a few minutes from Piazza Venezia.
The great gallery
This is the most spectacular room: a long salon lit by chandeliers and mirrors, whose painted ceiling celebrates the victory of Lepanto (1571), in which Marcantonio Colonna took part. A cannonball is still lodged in the marble staircase, from the siege of Rome in 1849.
The picture collection
The salons house Renaissance and Baroque works, including, depending on the route, Annibale Carracci's famous Bean Eater. The complete route also includes Princess Isabelle's apartment.
