Stadium of Domitian in Rome: tickets, opening hours and visit under Piazza Navona
The Stadium of Domitian is the ancient stadium of Rome preserved under Piazza Navona: you go down about 4.5 m below the houses to see the arches and stands of a stadium built by the emperor Domitian, whose elongated shape gave the square its outline. The entrance is at 3 Via di Tor Sanguigna; it costs about 10 € (Tiqets from 10 €, with guide or audio guide, October 2026), the visit takes about 40 minutes and the site is open daily 10:00-19:00 according to the sources consulted. Tiqets rates it 4.4/5 from 334 reviews.
Highlights

The arches of the stadium
The visible part is the travertine and brick substructure of one end: arches that carried the stands, lit by skylights. You can see how spectators entered through the vaults.

The steps and walls
A few brick steps and wall sections show how the cavea was organised. The stadium was built by Domitian in the AD 80s for Greek-style athletic contests and could hold about 20,000 spectators. Panels and the audio guide reconstruct the plan.
Piazza Navona above
Piazza Navona follows the exact shape of the stadium: the elongated outline and the two rounded ends. The square's current level is about 4.5 m above the ancient track; the site has been open to the public since 2014.
