Rome's Olympic Stadium (Stadio Olimpico): tour, AS Roma, Lazio and how to get there

Updated on October 15, 2026

The Stadio Olimpico, in the heart of the Foro Italico at the foot of Monte Mario, is Rome's great stadium: about 70,000 seats, home to AS Roma and Lazio, and the venue of the 1960 Olympic Games, the 1990 World Cup and the opening match of Euro 2020. On days without a match you can visit it: the "Stadio Olimpico Tour" takes you to the locker rooms, the side of the pitch and the trophy room. It runs every day from 10am to 6pm except on match days; the full-price ticket costs about €15, booking fee extra. Allow between 45 minutes and an hour and a half.

Highlights

The pitch and the stands

The pitch and the stands

The stadium opened in 1953 in the Foro Italico sports complex. It has been rebuilt several times, notably for the 1990 World Cup, and also hosts the Italian national team, cup finals and, in summer, major concerts. The tour lets you walk beside the pitch, where the players come out.

The locker rooms and the trophy room

The route goes behind the scenes, in areas normally closed to the public: locker rooms, the tunnel onto the pitch, a space devoted to trophies and the stadium's history, with multimedia displays. The tour ends at the stadium shop and a bistro-restaurant.

A match night

A match night

Roma play in red and yellow, Lazio in sky blue; the Curva Sud is the Roma fans' end, the Curva Nord the Lazio fans'. The derby della Capitale, twice a season, is the most anticipated event. This is not a tour: tickets are named and must be bought in advance, see our guide Watching an AS Roma or Lazio match.

The Foro Italico

All around the stadium stretches the complex built in the 1930s, with the obelisk dedicated to Mussolini at the entrance to the site and the mosaics along its paths. The complex also hosts the Italian Open tennis in May. You can stroll around the Foro Italico freely, outside event days.

Concerts and big events

In summer the stadium hosts concerts by Italian and international stars; check dates on the organiser's website.

Hours and prices

Tour every day from 10am to 6pm, except on match days. Full price: about €15, plus booking fee; discounts exist for families, schools and groups. Tickets on the official site (stadioolimpicotour.vivaticket.it), by phone on 06 36851 or at the stadium ticket office, via dei Gladiatori 2; the tour entrance is on the Monte Mario stand side, viale dei Gladiatori 1. Check the match and concert calendar before you go.

Practical info

Tips

  • Book online and check the calendar: the tour is suspended on match days and while concerts are being set up. Guided tours are offered in several languages (English, French, Italian, Spanish); check the language when you book. The stadium is far from the station with no metro at its door: allow travel time. To see a match rather than take a tour, read our match guide. Also worth reading: Auditorium Parco della Musica, MAXXI, Piazza del Popolo. Information checked in October 2026.

How to get there

Piazzale del Foro Italico, 00135 Rome. There is no metro station at the stadium's door: take metro line A to Ottaviano, then bus 32 to piazzale della Farnesina. On match days, special bus lines and street closures are set up around the stadium.

Opening hours

Best: Weekdays, non-match days
Every day 10:00-18:00 (closed on match days)
