Where to stay
- Aventine and Testaccio: a few hundred metres from the site, quiet districts with restaurants. See the Aventine and hotels in Testaccio.
- Colosseum / Monti: about 15 minutes' walk, plenty of hotels and Colosseo metro B station. See hotels near the Colosseum and around the Colosseum.
- Trastevere: across the Tiber, lively in the evening, return by tram or taxi. See hotels in Trastevere.
Getting there and back
- Metro B: Circo Massimo station, or Colosseo about 15 minutes' walk away. After a big concert the station can be closed or crowded: plan to walk to Colosseo or Piramide. Check the ATAC website.
- On foot: from the Aventine, the Colosseum or Testaccio it is the simplest option.
- For the night, see Rome transport, Rome at night and night safety in Rome.
Before or after
- The Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill, right next door, early in the morning before the heat.
