Cinecittà: Visiting Rome's Film Studios, Tickets and Opening Hours
Cinecittà, opened in 1937 on Via Tuscolana, about ten kilometres from the centre, is Europe's most famous film studio. Federico Fellini shot most of his films there, and American productions such as Ben-Hur and Gangs of New York built their sets there. Since 2011, the "Cinecittà si Mostra" tour has opened part of the site to the public: an exhibition, sound stages and ancient Roman sets. It is open every day except Tuesday, from 10am to 6pm. Allow two to three hours, more if you add the audiovisual museum.
Highlights

The historic entrance
The gate on Via Tuscolana marks the entrance to a veritable small city of cinema. The studios, bombed in 1943, resumed work after the war, before the golden age of the 1950s and 1960s.

The ancient Rome sets
Built for the series Rome (2005-2007), the sets of the Forum and the Subura have been preserved: paved streets, stone facades and papier-mâché temples. You walk through ancient Rome as the cinema imagined it.
The stages and exhibitions
The Cinecittà si Mostra tour presents costumes, models, props and rooms devoted to the great films shot here. Content changes with temporary exhibitions.
The guided tours of the sets
Guided tours let you enter Studio EL and other sound stages according to the calendar. They should be booked in advance on the Cinecittà website.
The audiovisual museum (MIAC)
On the site, the Museo Italiano dell'Audiovisivo e del Cinema traces the history of Italian cinema, television and photography. A combined ticket with Cinecittà si Mostra is available.

Combine the visit with our guide Rome at the movies to extend the experience in the city. Prices taken from ticketing sources in October 2026: check cinecitta.com before you come.
