Chiostro del Bramante in Rome: exhibitions, ticket and café in the cloister
The Chiostro del Bramante is a Renaissance cloister a step from Piazza Navona, built between 1500 and 1504 by Bramante for Cardinal Oliviero Carafa, next to the church of Santa Maria della Pace. It now serves as a centre for temporary modern and contemporary art exhibitions. With a café upstairs, it is a calm break in the centre, visited in 1 h 30 with the exhibition. The ticket price depends on the current exhibition (15 to 18 € for a 2023 show). Allow 1 h 30 with the exhibition, 20 minutes for the cloister and café alone.
Highlights

The cloister
Two storeys of arcaded galleries and pilasters, of great geometric simplicity, one of the first examples of Bramante's style in Rome. The inscriptions on the frieze speak of death and judgement.

The first-floor café
You can have a coffee or a light lunch overlooking the cloister. Access to the café may be possible without an exhibition ticket (to confirm for the period).
The exhibitions
Exhibitions change several times a year. Check the Chiostro's official site to see whether the current show is worth its ticket; entry to the cloister alone is sometimes free.

Tips
- Combine with the neighbouring church of Santa Maria della Pace (Raphael's frescoes, the Sibyl) and Piazza Navona. Outside an exhibition, the cloister alone does not justify a ticket. Hours and prices seen on 2022-2023 pages: check the official site before going.
How to get there
Via Arco della Pace 5, 00186 Rome. 5 minutes on foot from Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. No metro nearby: bus 40, 64 or 62 to Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, or walk from Campo de' Fiori.
