What the official ticket includes

The palace, run by the Vatican Museums, is visited with an audio guide through the historic rooms and the papal apartments, plus the Secret Garden and the Garden of the Moor. The gardens of the Pontifical Villas (the Borgo Laudato si') are a separate route, on foot or by electric minibus. In October 2026 the palace is closed on Tuesdays; it opens at 9am, with last entry at 1pm on weekdays and 5pm at weekends. It was closed in July 2026. See our Castel Gandolfo page.

Tiqets or the official ticket?

The Tiqets listing shows hours of Monday to Friday 9am to 1pm, Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm; these do not reflect the Tuesday closure published by the official site, so confirm your date. The ticket is non-refundable and cannot be changed, which is stricter than others: buy it only once the date is certain. Transport is not included. The official ticket is cheaper and enough, but resellers sometimes inflate prices: compare before paying.

Getting there from Rome and lunch

The FL4 train links Rome Termini to Castel Gandolfo station in 41 to 45 minutes. The village, above Lake Albano, has café terraces on Piazza della Libertà: a morning visit and lunch on site make a good half day, but I did not note a specific restaurant to recommend. To pair it with a museum day, see the Vatican Museums; for other escapes, read the Castelli Romani from Rome.
