The Galleria Corsini occupies the first floor of Palazzo Corsini, on Via della Lungara, at the foot of the Janiculum. It is part of the Gallerie Nazionali di Arte Antica, together with Palazzo Barberini, and shows the Corsini family collection in the rooms of the 18th-century palace, hung in the old style in a period setting. The palace was rebuilt from 1736 by Ferdinando Fuga for Cardinal Neri Corsini; before that it had belonged to the Riario family, and Queen Christina of Sweden lived there until her death in 1689. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm; the gallery alone costs €8 and the €15 ticket also gives access to Palazzo Barberini. Allow about 1 hour 30. The visit is limited to 2 hours on the booked time slot.
Highlights

The gallery rooms
The paintings are hung close together, from floor to ceiling and in several rows, in the taste of 18th-century collectors, among gilded consoles, busts and marble floors. Cardinal Neri Corsini's collection was added to by his heirs' purchases, then acquired by the Italian State in the late 19th century.

Fuga's palace
This large room, with its ancient statues and a door topped with the word "Biblioteca", gives the scale of the palace rebuilt by Fuga. The building also houses the Accademia dei Lincei and the Biblioteca Corsiniana, which are not part of the gallery visit.
The painters to look for
The gallery brings together canvases by Fra Angelico, Caravaggio (Saint John the Baptist), Guido Reni, Van Dyck and Murillo, among other Italian, Flemish and Spanish painters from the 15th to the 18th century. Ask for the room plan at the entrance: the works on display may change with temporary exhibitions.

The €15 ticket is valid for 20 days: one entry to the Galleria Corsini on the booked time slot, and one open-access visit to Palazzo Barberini at the first available time.
