What the official ticket includes

The museum fills the villa built for Pope Julius III between 1551 and 1553, on the northern edge of Villa Borghese. It holds the world's largest collection of Etruscan art: the Sarcophagus of the Spouses, the Apollo of Veii, the gold Pyrgi Tablets. Allow 2 to 3 hours. Entry is free on the first Sunday of the month (Sunday 1 November 2026) and on 25 April, 2 June and 4 November. Details on our Villa Giulia page.

Tiqets or the official ticket?

The Tiqets listing (4.3 out of 5 from 154 reviews; the page also shows 4.6, so check the listing) gives entry plus a downloadable digital audio guide. The hours shown are the museum's own (closed Monday, last entry one hour before closing). The official ticket is easy to buy on site since the museum is rarely packed: Tiqets is mainly worth it for the audio guide already included, which the museum sells for €7, and for free cancellation until the day before.

When a guided tour is worth it

Cases of vases look alike without explanation. To understand the Etruscans, the audio guide is enough for most people; a guided tour only helps if you want to link the museum to the necropolises such as Cerveteri. I found no guided tour of Villa Giulia on GetYourGuide to compare: the museum works very well on your own.

Combining it with Villa Borghese

Villa Giulia leads naturally into a walk in Villa Borghese, or to the Borghese Gallery (booking required, to be arranged separately). To go further, read the Etruscans around Rome. The museum is calm on weekdays in late morning.
