Train, plane, bus
| Option | Time | Indicative price | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train (Frecciarossa, Frecciargento) | about 4h14 on average | varies; cheaper booked early | Leaves Roma Termini, arrives at Bari Centrale |
| Flight Rome Fiumicino-Bari | about 1h10 | varies | Direct flights listed with ITA Airways, Neos and Ryanair |
| Bus (FlixBus) | clearly longer than the train | often the cheapest | Rome-Alberobello by bus: about 6h30 to 7 hours |
Choosing for your trip
The train is the best centre-to-centre compromise: you leave Roma Termini and arrive in the heart of Bari without going through an airport. The plane only wins if you start from Fiumicino (see Rome airports) and keep a margin for formalities. The bus makes sense mostly on a tight budget.
Bari, then Alberobello
Alberobello has no station on the high-speed line, so you go through Bari. Buses link Bari to Alberobello in about 1h05 to 1h15, with departures roughly every three hours on the regional line cited by Rome2Rio, and a FlixBus service several times a week. Check the day of your trip, as service varies.
Where to sleep in Bari
For a first night after the train, choose a hotel in Bari near the station or the Bari Vecchia district. A night on the spot leaves time to see Alberobello the next day.
