What the ticket covers
The park ticket opens several sites: the archaeological area, the castle of Julius II and the Ostia Antica village, the imperial harbours of Claudius and Trajan, the museum of the Roman ships at Fiumicino, the Isola Sacra necropolis and the San Ippolito basilica complex. It is valid for 8 days, enough to spread the visit. Entry is free on the first Sunday of the month (1 November 2026) for all park sites. See the Ostia Antica page.
Hours, Mondays and winter
Official hours for the season: from 25 October to the end of February, 8:30am to 4:30pm with the ticket office closing an hour earlier; 8:30am to 5:15pm in March; 8:30am to 7pm from April to September. The park is closed on Mondays. In winter the days are short and the site is vast, with little shelter: allow at least 3 hours.
Getting there from Rome
The train goes to the Ostia Antica stop, then a pedestrian bridge and signs lead to the entrance (Viale dei Romagnoli 717). Buses also leave from Porta San Paolo (Piramide), San Paolo and Eur Magliana. Our Ostia Antica from Rome page details the trip, and day trips from Rome places it among other outings. The nearby beach is described at Ostia beach.
Tiqets ticket or ticket desk?
At the desk, the fare is the official fare. The Tiqets ticket is worth it to fix the date and keep the ticket on your phone, for example if you combine it with a timed booking. A guided visit adds a lot here, because the ruins have little on-site explanation.
Which to choose
- Free departure, weekday morning: the official ticket at the desk.
- A set day, everything booked ahead: the Tiqets ticket.
- First visit to an ancient site: a guided visit, also booked ahead.
