The options
- Termini station left luggage: inside the station, the best known. A competing site reports 6 € per bag for the first 5 hours and 10 € a day when pre-booked; these figures should be confirmed with the operator.
- Neighbourhood storage: booking platforms offer drop-off points in shops and cafés, from about 4 to 5 € per bag per day. Handy near the Colosseum, the Vatican or Termini; online booking is advisable in high season.
- At your hotel: most hotels keep bags free of charge on arrival and departure days. Ask before booking.
- Airports: Fiumicino and Ciampino have left-luggage desks, more expensive than those in the centre; they mainly suit long layovers.
Tips
- Before dropping a bag, check closing times: some points close at 20:00.
- Keep your passport, medication, valuables and chargers with you.
- Large bags: many museums and the Colosseum refuse big bags; neighbourhood storage saves a queue for nothing. For the Vatican, see the dress code and rules.
- If you arrive by train, our guide to Termini station shows where the services are.
If you are short of time
A private transfer from the airport to the hotel often settles the luggage question; see Rome airports to compare options.
