The comparison at a glance

Official hours

The museum and crypt open daily from 9:30am to 1:30pm and then 2:30pm to 6:30pm; last entry is 12:30pm in the morning and 5:30pm in the afternoon. Closed on Easter Sunday, 25 December and 1 January. On Holy Saturday, 2 November, 24 and 31 December, it closes at 1:30pm (last entry 12:30pm): Monday 2 November 2026 falls this week. The entrance is at Via Vittorio Veneto 27, near Piazza Barberini. The Tiqets listing shows slightly different hours: follow the official site.

What you see

The route passes through the Capuchin friars' museum before reaching the crypt, whose decoration is made of bones. The atmosphere is that of a religious place: decent dress and silence are expected, and we could not read an official photography rule. Ask at the entrance. See the Capuchin Crypt page.

Guided tour, audio guide or evening?

The 45-minute guided tour gives the historical context; otherwise the audio guide is enough. This tour with transfers pairs the crypt with catacombs, and this after-hours tour adds a bone chapel in the evening. To choose catacombs, read which catacombs tour to book.

Pitfalls and tips

  • Non-refundable: the Tiqets ticket cannot be changed, so pick a firm date.
  • The midday break: the museum closes from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.
  • Rain: a short, covered visit, see Rome on a rainy day.

Which to choose

  • Historical context: the ticket with the guided tour.
  • At your own pace: the ticket with audio guide.
  • A long themed evening: the tour with catacombs.
