What the visit holds
The Capitoline Museums call themselves the world's oldest: opened by Pope Clement XII in 1734, they hold the she-wolf of Romulus and Remus and overlook the Roman Forum. The equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius is displayed inside, with a copy in the square. Allow 2 to 3 hours. Only small bags are accepted, no food or drink, and children aged 0 to 5 enter free but must pick up a ticket at the desk.
Official ticket, Tiqets or Capitolini Card?
The official site shows the day's fare and also sells the Capitolini Card, valid 7 days for the Capitoline Museums and the Centrale Montemartini (a former power station turned ancient-sculpture museum, €11 full and €6.50 reduced in October 2026 for that site alone). The Tiqets ticket does not replace the card: it lets you fix a date with flexible cancellation. The card is worth it if you also visit the Centrale Montemartini.
Do you need a guided visit?
The rooms are rich but lightly explained. A guided visit helps if you want to understand the Forum seen from above; otherwise the audio guide is enough. To link the Capitoline to the Forum and Colosseum, this guided tour passes right next door.
